Cook County Board Prevents Roll Back of Smoke-Free Ordinance

Not to be outdone by HB 246 leaving committee, yesterday, the Cook County Board was unable to secure a majority vote that would have rolled back the County's smoke-free law to July 2008. The final tally was 8-8 with Commissioner Moreno absent for the vote. With yesterday's vote, the start date of Cook County's Smoke-Free Ordinance will remain this March.

We wish to thank all of you that took time to call Commissioners Sims, Moreno, and Collins. The number of responses we recieved were truely outstanding and your actions obviously didn't go unnoticed, as Sims and Collins both voted to keep the smoke-free ordinance as is.

Here is a link to the Tribune's story on the vote as well as the complete roll call:

Please take a few more minutes out of your day to call up the commissioners and either thank them for their support or voice your dissappointment with their decision.
