Lobby Day Recap

Yesterday roughly 60 ACS volunteers descended upon the State Capitol for a lobby day in support of Smoke-Free Illinois. By all measures the day was a complete success. We were able to meet with many dozens of key legislators and in turn we were able to secure some key support for the two smoke-free bills.

One of the key endorsements we received yesterday was from Attorney General Lisa Madigan. Attorney General Madigan took part in our smoke-free luncheon and gave her public support of comprehensive smoke-free legislation. The Attorney General also received the Society's Partners in Progress Award for her continued efforts to keep the state's youth safe from the dangers of tobacco and smoking. Also, if you were one of the many volunteers who partcipated in yesterday's lobby day we would love to hear about your experience. Let us know how your conversations with your senators and representatives went by leaving a comment on this post.

I am not a volunteer, but want to express my thanks to all the volunteers who made the day such a success. Special thanks to Treva Starr, Don Lohenry, Mary Rob Clarke, Ron Kamykowski and his wife, Verla who delivered daffodils to officials who were not lobbied. An extra-special thanks goes to Debbie Waters who coordinated the daffodil delivery. Because of all of you we ARE making a difference! Thanks again, Martha Kieffer
